Damn Holiday Bowl 5K!!!

Let me preface this post with first saying that this was the first run of mine in the last 3 months give or take (which ever is more is probably the case) and I will be incredibly sore tomorrow that I can say for sure. But the experience was well worth it!! I do have to thank the wonderful person who took it upon themselves to sign me up, forcing me to get up off of my fat skinny ass to join the festivities.

For those who don't know the race begins downtown right next to The Star of India looping around the convention center, ending in Seaport Village. The first mile and a half follows the route of the Holiday Bowl parade!!! As the gun sounded for the start of the race we were surrounded by stadium seating and thousands of spectators lining the streets as if they were there to cheer us on. Very exhilarating!! Waving to the crowd, smiling at the children, and soaking in the atmosphere I felt like an ambassador of the parade.

There must have been around a thousand participants herding like cattle to the starting line. It took about 300 yards to really get enough room to set a pace (which was slower than I am accustomed to because Justin = out of shape). My goal was to complete under 30 mins... As I was coming down the home stretch I could faintly see the clock 29:13...UH OH!! Now I know that I started in the back and took me a goo 45 seconds just to reach the starting line after the gun, but IT'S JUST PRINCIPAL PEOPLE. Every step of my mad 100 dash felt like an eternity, it was like watching time tick down on a bomb. I finished with 15 seconds to spare, 29:45! A great win, a great day, a crappy run (cause no one actually likes to run!), and an experience that was awesome to the last stride!

P.S - Also played golf in the afternoon and enjoyed myself <-- it's been awhile, but a story for another time. Thanks Dad!

- Cheers
