S..D..S..U AZTEC's FIGHT!!!

S..D..S..U AZTEC's FIGHT!!!

This is truly a special season for the San Diego State Basketball team! As of right now they are ranked #7 in the nation (as if anyone didn't know) and playing some high caliber basketball. Today's game although was not the most exciting contest, and frankly I felt a little sorry for Division 3 Occidental. they were out matched, under sized, and definitely not in the same league athletically as SDSU. The most exciting part of the game was hoping that SDSU held Occidental under 50 points to earn a free order of Curly Fries from Jack in the Box.

Enough about the game cause the score was 93-50; more importantly it was fantastic spending time with my dad. It's funny to think as a child you take all of that time for granted, not realizing that as you ascend in age that time will diminish exponentially (at least for me). The problem with that is I haven't really learned how to appreciate the time I spend with my parents. And I may have just realized that now!! And that's a good first step! I feel that I am beginning to develop more of an adult relationship with them which is really scary. I always want to be their little Justy Boy and apart of me always will be, but now I also have to be an equal --> imagine that huh!! I guess I will constantly be working on that. :)

Now I can only hope that the fair weather SDSU fans don't take advantage of the Pepsi tickets, and make sure that the faithful who have been going for a couple of years now get the chance to see the best team in school history. Oh yeah the courtside seats were awesome! Either way S-D-S-U AZTEC's FIGHT!!!

Damn Holiday Bowl 5K!!!

Let me preface this post with first saying that this was the first run of mine in the last 3 months give or take (which ever is more is probably the case) and I will be incredibly sore tomorrow that I can say for sure. But the experience was well worth it!! I do have to thank the wonderful person who took it upon themselves to sign me up, forcing me to get up off of my fat skinny ass to join the festivities.

For those who don't know the race begins downtown right next to The Star of India looping around the convention center, ending in Seaport Village. The first mile and a half follows the route of the Holiday Bowl parade!!! As the gun sounded for the start of the race we were surrounded by stadium seating and thousands of spectators lining the streets as if they were there to cheer us on. Very exhilarating!! Waving to the crowd, smiling at the children, and soaking in the atmosphere I felt like an ambassador of the parade.

There must have been around a thousand participants herding like cattle to the starting line. It took about 300 yards to really get enough room to set a pace (which was slower than I am accustomed to because Justin = out of shape). My goal was to complete under 30 mins... As I was coming down the home stretch I could faintly see the clock 29:13...UH OH!! Now I know that I started in the back and took me a goo 45 seconds just to reach the starting line after the gun, but IT'S JUST PRINCIPAL PEOPLE. Every step of my mad 100 dash felt like an eternity, it was like watching time tick down on a bomb. I finished with 15 seconds to spare, 29:45! A great win, a great day, a crappy run (cause no one actually likes to run!), and an experience that was awesome to the last stride!

P.S - Also played golf in the afternoon and enjoyed myself <-- it's been awhile, but a story for another time. Thanks Dad!

My Birthday - Birch Aquarium

Today is my birthday, duh nun-na nan nan nah!!! It's time to have a good time!!

Well on this cold, damp, dreary day (cliche' I know) I decided that it was time to get out of the house with some people that I love and see something unique. Well what I thought to be unique, but it seemed that every other underwater adventurer had the same idea. Today Carmel, Mason, Kevin, and I went down to the UCSD Birch Aquarium on our own sea quest only to be rivaled by Mr. Jacques Cousteau himself.

It has been may years since I have witnessed the treasures of the deep, and seeing how I am not a fish eater I feel oddly connected to them like a vegetarian must feel about cows! Every step was one into the unknown, every exhibit had something to offer, and the whole experience reminded me how much little I know about the world.

Alright enough philosophizing, I had a wonderful time, I saw and learned many things today. The exciting part was scurrying from tank to tank with child like enthusiasm showing each other what we have found, and pointing out the details that amazed us. I am extremely lucky to share the experience with with my brother, sister, and dear friend; a low key birthday by my standards but the best one I have had in a while. I strongly recommend visiting the Aquarium, but most importantly share it with someone you care about because for me it enhanced the experience - A very special day.

So... Let's Start Slow - Azalea Park

Alright I didn't want to blow my proverbial load with the first post, so I thought that I would take a stroll thru my park and drought resistant garden at Azalea Park. Now I have grown attached to my view from my back patio, and the back breaking work that went into putting the garden in, therefore its a fitting start. The park itself has been a great addition to my house, and especially a great outlet for the boys. I think looking at it now as I type this, I have greatly under appreciated the utility and beauty of our little community park. I is simple, safe (at least in the day :0) with plenty of shade, and space for the boys to run.

This time of year the leaves cover the ground as a east coast snow storm would, providing extra color and texture not normally found in San Diego (I guess a late fall day). Its funny to see the beauty of fall leaves right next to a drought resistant garden, go figure huh. The Rawley gets the freedom to do what he pleases, and Crew gets the endless joy of chasing down tennis balls.

The garden is full abstract hippie art that seems to fit the community very well. From the solar lit plastic eye sores to the beautiful ceramic sculpture one can see that a lot of work was put into the development of the garden. The high point of the day was watching the majestic Muffalo in its annual migratory path thru San Diego (See pic). Overall I hope that everyone at some point get to see my little park, and of course stop by to see the boys and maybe even for a word with yours truly.
